Como Beyoncé atendeu pedido Dolly Parton e mudou a letra de ‘Jolene’

O desejo de Dolly Parton se tornou realidade. Durante uma entrevista de 2022 para o “The Daily Show”, Parton foi questionada sobre as centenas de versões cover de seu clássico country “Jolene” de 1973 e sobre a única artista que ainda não gravou a música que Parton esperava que o fizesse, Beyoncé.

“Não sei se ela entendeu a mensagem, mas isso não seria incrível? Eu acho ela fantástica e linda e adoro a música dela.” Parton disse.

“Eu adoraria ouvir ‘Jolene’ em grande estilo, mais ou menos como Whitney [Houston] fez meu ‘I Will Always Love You’. Alguém que pudesse pegar minhas pequenas músicas e transformá-las em potências. Seria um dia maravilhoso na minha vida se ela algum dia fizesse ‘Jolene.”

Feito e feito.

Beyoncé inclui uma versão do sucesso de Parton em sua sequência de “Renaissance”, “Act 11: Cowboy Carter”. A música é apresentada pela própria Parton. “Ei, senhorita Honey B, é Dolly P. Sabe aquela vadia de cabelo bonito sobre a qual você canta? Me lembrou de alguém que conheci naquela época, exceto que ela tem mechas flamejantes de cabelo ruivo”, diz Parton, referindo-se à letra de “Sorry” de Beyoncé.

“Abençoe o coração dela. Apenas um cabelo de uma cor diferente, mas dói do mesmo jeito.” Segue a versão de Beyoncé de “Jolene”.

Embora seja fiel ao original melodicamente, Bey dá seu próprio toque às letras. Por exemplo, em vez de “Estou implorando, por favor, não pegue meu homem”, Beyoncé canta: “Estou avisando, não venha atrás do meu homem”.
